Water is arguably one of the most important substances on Earth. The majority of the human body is made out of water. Human blood alone is 85 per cent water. Additionally, nearly all known organisms use water to survive.
Unfortunately, the necessity of water can lead to issues. First of all, there is the sheer lack of it. Dehydration, to begin with; a particularly problematic symptom, as thirstiness is not an indicator to dehydration alone- one could easily be thirsty but not connect it to extreme dehydration. Plus, dehydrating is not only dangerous for all ages but can additionally make victims irritable and therefor not pleasurable to be with. Also, more discreet connections appear: valuable food could be lost in a drought, or other troubles could pop up. And then there are the problems of unclean water. Although Earth is called "The water planet" for a reason- about 70 per cent of the surface on earth is water- less than three/hundredths of the water on this planet is "fresh" water. And that 97 per cent of unclean water can have it's own issues. Namely, diseases. A fragment of all the waterborne diseases includes:
1) Cholera
2) E. coli
3) Vibrio Illness
4) Dysentery
5) Taeniasis
6) Typhoid
7) SARS
8) Hepatitis A
9) Amoebiasis
10) Giardiasis
11) Ascariasis
12) Enterobiasis
13) Leptospirosis
14) Poliomyelitis
15) M. marinum
16) Salmonellosis
17) Echinococcosis
18) Hymenolepiasis
Et cetera
If untreated, most of these have the potential to cause death. Fortunately, many countries do have treatment for most waterborne diseases. However, they should still be taken seriously. This website will mainly focus on one of the diseases listed: typhoid fever (number 6).
